There is no single right tool for managing reusable images on X — the right tool depends on how often you post and whether you work alone or on a team. This is an honest breakdown of the four most common options (Google Drive, Notion, Contspot, and the Downloads folder), updated for 2026.
Google Drive / Dropbox
Best for: people who already pay for cloud storage and post on X occasionally.
Drive is excellent at being cloud storage. It's also the first tool most people reach for when their Downloads folder gets unmanageable. But it was built for backup and document sharing, not for fast retrieval mid-tweet. Search is by file name, the thumbnail grid is sparse, and you'll always tab-switch to use it.
Pick Drive if you post a few times a week and want zero new tools.
Notion / Airtable
Best for: teams that already manage assets in a database tool.
Notion turns images into a database — tags, properties, views, filters. Powerful if you already live in Notion; heavyweight if you don't. Loading takes seconds, the gallery view's image previews are smaller than ideal, and there's no X.com integration so you still right-click → save → upload.
Pick Notion if your X posting is part of a broader content workflow your team already runs in Notion.
Contspot
Best for: X power users posting 5+ times a week with reusable images.
Contspot is purpose-built for this one workflow: "open compose → attach image → post". The Chrome extension lives inside the X composer, the library is tag-searchable in seconds, and one click attaches an image as a real upload (not a link). Free for 100 graphics; Pro is $7/month for 1,000.
Downsides: single-user only today (no team plans yet), X-only (no LinkedIn/Bluesky/Threads yet), and the Chrome extension is currently load-unpacked while we wait on Web Store review.
Pick Contspot if the bolt button mid-compose sounds like it would save you real time.
The Downloads folder
Best for: casual posters who tweet fewer than 5 times a week.
Free, infinite, already set up. If your posting volume is low, the friction of any tool exceeds the time saved. Skip everything else.
How to actually choose
Ask yourself one question: how many times do you attach images to tweets per week?
- 0-5: Downloads folder. Don't install anything.
- 5-20: Drive or Notion, whichever you already use.
- 20+: Contspot, or the extension pattern in general.
- You're a team: Notion until Contspot ships teams.
